Unauguration

He’s standing there—he dominates—

A sight we can’t forget.

It’s really enough to make you want

To disconnect your set!

He raises his hand, he speaks the words,

He thinks his life complete

And yet he looks like he’d prefer

To do it in a tweet.

Why didn’t we vote for Bernie?

We all knew that we should!

But the DNC informed us

That only Hillary could

Defeat the evil forces

Which would eat the USA,

But if we’d voted for Bernie,

He’d be standing there today!

He took the oath, then someone sang

Or maybe some band played,

Then off he went to greet the folks

Who watched the motorcade

And waved their small American flags

Or maybe the stars and bars

As the man whom they elected

Dreamed himself among the tsars.

Why didn’t we vote for Bernie?

We all knew that we should!

But the DNC picked Hillary

Since they all said she could

Defeat the evil forces

Which would eat the USA,

But if we’d voted for Bernie,

He’d be there today!

We wonder now if Hillary

Was watching, as we were,

And asking how we possibly

Could let this thing occur

As suddenly, in horror,

Before the screen went black,

We saw trump uncross all the fingers

He’d held behind his back.

Why didn’t we all back Bernie?

We all knew that we should!

But that damned DNC had told us

That only Hillary could

Outspend the evil forces

Which would eat the USA,

But if we had voted for Bernie,

He’d be standing there today!
